Speed regulation from 0 to 1485Rpm. 300mm diameter lapping disc made from 304 stainless.
Rotating assembly balanced dynamically for 1500Rpm.

Placed in high plastic barrel that collects splashing water from the rotating disc.
Cooling system is pretty overpowered.

Abrasive discs are held by adhesive spray. So far used P60, 120 and 240.

USE:
Checking straightness/flatness and flat lapping, adjusting the edge thickness,
correction of possible inaccuracy after belt grinder after rough grinding.
Sharpening at lower speeds. Makes real good base surface before hand finishing.

I plan to get some P1000 sharpening abrasives..

I was inspired by lapping machines in labs but needed it to be more powerful and have bigger surface to work on for long blades. Built to be durable for decades in service.

Placed on concrete on rubber silent blocks. Torque is delivered indirectly so vibrations are very low.

Now that you have had a year to use your flat-lap, how does it work? Is it better than a speed controlled disc sander? Have you had wear issues with the abrasive discs?
Thanks

I use SiC water paper polishing discs with a sticker they get worn realtively
fast especially higher grits.. But thats expected..

Flat lapping machine works great I assume main difference is that its more rugged
I can actually press down more without getting higher vibration or anything
plus its water cooled - that would be hard for disc sander..

It basically works similarly except grinding surface being horizontal..
I cant imagine using it without cooling.. as most disc sanders..

This was made by that lapping machine by hand on loaded P800 discs

JSCT,
Wow, that machine looks impressive.
