Do knife makers commonly use cast titanium parts?

No. Normally milled out of rolled sheets/rods. To my knowledge from my reading on coatings for Ti casting of Ti is more used in the medical industry. I am under correction though.

Precision casting a part is a lot of $ and by a lot of money I mean hundreds and thousands of dollars for the mold, material and capacity to do it, demand in the medical industry is much higher for lets say a Ti hip than a Ti pivot at 4.5mm. As a maker you can just as well buy a CNC mill then and you have more artistic capability.

Interesting article and thanks for sharing.

Good point on the cost Marthinus, I hadn't thought of that.
