Hi everyone, I came across this thread and found it very interesting. It is a 63Hrc D2 'hone' or 'steel'. The reviewers say it cuts fast. There is a video on the last page from the maker. I ordered one and can't wait to try it out! https://bushcraftusa.com/forum/threads/gossmans-flat-sharpening-steels-cut-sharp.149001/by chiseen - TuneUp's
I got a couple of his works, but last i checked on etsy, seems he doesn't sell on there any longer. I dont think he has a web site. I am interested jn the model 1 folder.by chiseen - No safe queens
Another claim on a super knife using amazing materials. They even have some personalities endorsing it. It is some diamond and tungsten alloy bonded to the edge. So only the edge has this super tough metal the blade is 2Cr14N heat treated to 49-50 HRC. Kinda reminds me of the hype over diamond blade knives.by chiseen - Things to read in Denver when you're dead.
hello all, found this interesting design ironforestknives.com there is youtube promo video here i like the idea of having the lash points to make it a better chopper but seems like a lot of trouble to go from knife to axe and back. the saw attachment is appealing though there are so.e compact saws alreadyby chiseen - When you can't have a lightsabre
Terävä Jääkäripuukko 110, carbon steel, w/ leather sheath These are back in stock and can go quite fast. I got the plastic liner one and got a cheap leather sheath from amazon, though I wanted the nice leather one they offered.by chiseen - Nothing under the microscope
I have discovered the joy of lower cost knives. But I still make one or two big purchases a year. This is on its way, and found a $8 sheath for it from amazon: Also got the Mora Eldris and really dig it. Swiss Bianco has a bunch of custom Victoinox scales and models. I've been wanting to get one or two.by chiseen - Nothing under the microscope
The mirror polish on that first knife is really neat. I don't think there is any secondary bevel, it looks like a full flat grind all the way to the edge.by chiseen - Nothing under the microscope
Chum, thanks for the input. I really like the look of the polished handles. Well, I guess I will use it as a weapon of mass destruction of sorts . Most of my other knives are for bushcrafting, so this is one of the few big choppers I have. I do have some axes but since Cliff showed that this can match the Fiskars X7, I thought it would be a good one tool option.by chiseen - Nothing under the microscope
Sorry about the bad links.... I was on a tablet. Thanks for fixing it! I do want to try the phonebook cut with the Spyderco Phil Wilson South Fork in s90v but it is a safe queen . I think that is my only knife that might come close to that level. But who knows, maybe with the right reprofile, some cheap kitchen knives might do just as well?by chiseen - Nothing under the microscope
Saw this and was surprised how little effort it seems to take! The first one is white steel. Amazing cutting skills! There are a variety of knives being used.by chiseen - Nothing under the microscope
Hello, I need some help figuring this out. I will be getting the Chris Caine survival tool but can't decide on the handle finish. They offer polished or unpolished micarta. I really like the polished look, but it seems for a big chopping knife it would make more sense to go with the handle unpolished. Does anyone have experience with a big knife with a polished handle? Is it grippy enough or dosby chiseen - Nothing under the microscope
There is some press about this knife and it looks like it has all the virtues that readers of this forum would agree with: AUS8 at 58-59RC 15 deg per side FFG Low price It is not a zero edge though. It will come out 1Q 2016.by chiseen - Things to read in Denver when you're dead.
I'm interested in getting one of these but not sure which would be the best steel for this type of knife? I think AG Russell's partners (esp the japanese) have a good HT for 8Cr13MoV, but not sure about this particular model. I think the grind on the Honcho 2 is a bit better but I would appreciate any thoughts on which would be better in the kicthen. I got a couple of these based on the reviews from this forum! Can't wait to try it out!by chiseen - When you can't have a lightsabre
Ever since I saw one on a popular survival show, I've been searching for one. I haven't been able to find it in the US for a reasonable price. Anyone have any experience with these? I prefer fixed blade over folder any day, and this would be a great way to have a somewhat fixed blade with me at all times. Know of any place to get one in the US or possibly abroad for a reasonable price?by chiseen - Nothing under the microscope
Saw a video that mentioned that the Sage Chemical axes are some of the best out there, and they hold an edge a LONG time. Apparently, there was some special chemical treatment to quench(?) the steel. When Mr Sage passed, he took the secret formula with him, so know knows what it is. I found the patent here: Sage Patent 547361 An extract: On October 1, 1895 Mr. William J. I wonder if the same results could be obtained with an Enlan knife?by chiseen - Say hello to my little friend!
QuoteLuisknivacc ... Would the potential cost of removing the handles, putting new ones in, etc. be worth it to you? Also, what Cliff mentioned about overheating is important, as it's a common issue with Bark River knives. Try sharpening them a few times, see it that improves it. And have you experienced any damage or poor performance yourself? If so, in what manner? I'm asking this not becauby chiseen - Nothing under the microscope
Hi everyone, I read some threads on this forum that the 12c27 from Bark River was, shall we say, less than optimal. Well I dug around and found a few knives that I have that are in that steel. What to do?? Can I get the knife heat treated by a reliable vendor? Or does the Bark River spa treatment take care of the fixing some of the issues? Thanks for the input, and I really enjoy learniby chiseen - Nothing under the microscope
