Okay, reading the comments above on the Venev Bonded Diamond I do have very similar results. So it seems the Venev Diamond are good for what they are, and they can't produce fine edge. Turns out the abrasives aren't as good as they are advertised. Some time ago I bit the bullet and went full WE and managed to learn a lot from the closed system. Hello Jason, Thank you for the response. I had my hands on the Venev bonded diamond before and I can confirm that while they are good, they could be better. I am very interested in the bonded CBN stones now. It seems to me that BBB's CBNs are made for him only? Are there any viable alternative bonded CBN stones (or diamond)? Must say I am intrigued. Mail call. These bad boys cost around $25 each, 9Cr18MoV laminated. Edge came okay, touched it up on stones and they are good to go. Gonna play.by vigiloconfido - Say hello to my little friend!
QuoteC Amber They look great. Hiko does some really nice work, and he has a style that is easily recognizable as his. Thank you very much for your recommendation. He is really good. QuoteNate T Thank you, these all look excellent. I need to thin my collection a bit before I buy any new fixed blades, but he'll be on my short list of custom makers to contact when I do. QuoteJSCT Once the question was raised, simply tried to answer it.. I bent AEB-L kitchen utility blade in vice to 75deg (after returned looked straight) and 80deg (snapped) at 62.5HRC so I assume lower carbon steel at lower hardness could do 90deg even in thicker stock.. If I imagine bending radius on a long blade it isnt something extremely difficult to achieve unless something is wronby vigiloconfido - Things to read in Denver when you're dead.
Awesome article, thank you. This raised a question that has long buried in my mind: Are there any high(er) corrosion resistance steel suitable for making sword? The 90 degree test is probably the problem. I also wonder if a three layer construction could make this possible. Reason to ask being I have a nice 5160 longsword, but I really want a nice cut-and-thrust with better corrosion resistby vigiloconfido - Things to read in Denver when you're dead.
This is a very interesting post. QuoteWell Boys, when it rains it pours. The Nitro V Fell Beast run has been in circulation for over a year with no reported issues until last week when a customer had both of his Fell Beasts break at the handle during routine use. The steel question never ends. I am bringing 3 knives on myself nowadays. Victorinox Swiss Army Knife Pioneer X in X55 for cutting food. Spyderco Techno in XHP or my new Moki Calliope in VG10 reserved for high precision cuts. Spyderco Squarehead in s30v for cutting cardboard and dirty stuff. QuoteCliffStamp The main reason why people don't think India stones work on high carbide steels is that they are not conditioning the stone and thus they are working with worn abrasive. This happens because the bond strength in India stones is extremely high and grit won't get released (unless you use very high pressure >> 10 psi generally). However even if you condition India stones,by vigiloconfido - TuneUp's

Quotejasonstone20 vigiloconfido, What issues do you have with the Axis lock? It's as hard to maintain as a lockback, but without the same durability. Also the lock itself is prone to stuff sticking in. The best thing about it is smoothness to operate and that's it. I prefer frame lock for easy cleaning and backlock for strength. But I will take any lock any day.by vigiloconfido - I am kind of a big deal.
QuoteJSCT They claim 57+HRC on that nitroV folder I dont think it can perform any better from mora edge for 10usd.. Only see this now. I really love AEB-L family of eutectoid steel, but for my folder I really want some corrosion resistance and would trade abrasion resistance for toughness. Axis lock is another deal killer for myself.by vigiloconfido - I am kind of a big deal.
